The Warehouse
The Warehouse (2023).is a growing installation and video exploration examining:
How do we treat word of mouth histories with justice and care?
Inspired by the original Warehouse, located at 206 S. Jefferson in Chicago, IL, it honors the birthplace of house music and its international legacy on Black, Queer, and music cultures. The site is a community symbol of undeniable historical impact despite recently overcoming the threat of demolition. It has been named as a city landmark from the campaigning work of global voices and Chicago’s Black community.
Furthermore questioning, how is design a reaction to homesickness? Home being spaces, concrete histories, and nuances of culture. How does architecture hold space for homesickness? How does it preserve our communities?
This video is paired with testimonies of Warehouse goers’s reflecting on their experiences and Frankie Knuckles’s most famous track, Your Love.
